Found myself...

...within the walls of a great structure, filling out a card after donating money to two girls from Costa Rica. Thru inquisition, turns out Playa Nosara is home to them, state side relatives arranged their visit. Naturally curious, I asked of Costa Rica and they asked of my Wolf. Falling behind in completing my card to Marina, whom was off to L.A. again. Another passer by wanted to admire such a grand creature beside me. Upon my pen returning to paper, found my card had been completed. Huh, I wondered, different ink and writing. One of the Costa Rica girls saw it her job to see me on my way. Gazed at her for a moment and politely said, "One should contemplate, perhaps longer, prior to completing another's card? Enjoy The Day!" Turned around and walked away. Could hear the sweeter of the two scolding her older sis for filling out my card.
Seemed fresh air was needed for Bear and I, as we stepped from one world filled with society's noise and clutter, thence to Life. Full of damp under paw and moc, evenings mist began to fill this lush valley. Towering Cedars anchored deeply below, under centuries of duff. Each foot fall upon sponge like bedding. Not this evenin, but many prior, stretched head to toe soaking up damp, like, chill of rivers water. Into each vertebrae it seems to creep, no matter, eyes were fixed skyward. Glimpses of the great blue are all one can see, a great forest canopy dominates this vista. Countless bark, branch, bow and needle captivates all senses. Agin, not this evenin, was not up for that chill.
Gently walked along and all at once, he was gone. Bear had bolted without warning, wild be wild. No need to yell as most do, if he wants to return, he will.
Nights, dark was approachin fast, chill going deeper. Dew droplets forming in any depression. Lichens and fungi gratefully soaking up. Canopy above quietly howled while brushed by passing winds. Come back if ya want has always been our pact. Decided to wander, side hill crowning the ridge. An old stone foundation and tattered floor were being reclaimed elementally by Nature.
Nothing to be seen, however, sound was unmistakable. Distance was a bit and more, gap filled fast, another now and another. Three of the four directions had been posted. Finally a glimpse, sure enough three of four white socks below yard long black fur covered legs. This will send a heart size lump through out ones body. The stone foundation was my best chance. Belly down, Earths damp penetrated my chest. Huddled in my foreign safe house, then thud! Swift as an Eagles tail feather in flight, paws, large paws seemed to be tread at every opening. Black, gray, white and brown-glistened as eves damp spat with each step. Sniffing, taking in/soaking up any and all scantly scent of me to be found. Magnificence was all around, just in an unfamiliar sense, blood to be spilled was the sense. My blood! Then came the eyes full of river gold, only two feet from my huddle, lips curled, nose wrinkled with brilliant white fangs clenched. Long red tongue being etched out through front teeth, as if already tasting what his eyes fixed upon. A mere four to five feet away, commanding the East opening stood a creature like none other. Massive paws, no less than three feet long legs with gray and white bands, again river gold eyes, splashed with crimson. Had not a full snarl, seemed more of a smile. Only polished front teeth shining. Hello/good-bye smile. I shouted, "Where is Bear? Yipe, Yipe, Yipe!" in an attempt to scare them off, to no avail, their taste ran deep. Not tasting, was not an option. Exclaimed did I, I gotta end this and as quick as a Grizz's blow to the skull, I sat straight up in my bed with a pounding heart.
Woke to a chorus of five Great Horned Owls was no dream, it was this morn's song and Life abounds. Soon Loons haunt echoed and Robins sang out. Owls went silent, dogs woke up with bark. Society raced on.
